Babble Tym makes everyday baby and toddler clothing — rompers, joggers, swaddles, frocks, oversized tees and sweatshirts — in soft knitted cotton, cut for movement rather than occasion wear.

What to look at when buying baby clothes

• Fabric weight and knit. Single jersey suits Indian summers; interlock and fleece-backed knits are for winter. GSM is more useful than the word "soft" on a listing.
• Seams and labels. Flat seams and printed-on labels avoid the rubbing that raised stitching and sewn-in tags cause on new skin.
• Fastenings. Shoulder envelope necks and press studs down the inseam make nappy changes and dressing easier than pull-over necks in the first year.
• Dye safety. For fabrics, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 confirms testing for harmful substances — the certifications we have verified are listed on our vendor certifications page.
• Size up. Cotton knits shrink a little on first wash, and babies outgrow clothes faster than they wear them out. Buy one size ahead and wash cold.
• Swaddles. A muslin or light knit swaddle should be breathable enough to see light through when held up.
