Soil Origin — Organic Grains, Pulses & Everyday Staples in India
Soil Origin covers the unglamorous middle of an Indian kitchen: stone-ground flours, dals and desi chana, brown basmati, chia and other seeds, khandsari raw sugar, filter coffee from Chikmagalur, Assam masala tea and Himalayan green tea. There is also a small bath range — activated charcoal and lemongrass, green French clay and tea tree soaps with shea butter — and kitchen basics like coconut coir scrubbers.
What to check on the pack
- Milling date, not just expiry. Stone-ground flours such as chana sattu keep the bran and germ, so they carry more fat and turn rancid faster than refined flour. Buy sizes you will finish in two to three months.
- Rice type. Brown basmati keeps the bran layer, so it needs a longer soak and roughly twice the cooking time of polished white rice.
- Sugar. Khandsari is minimally processed and unrefined, which is why the colour varies batch to batch. It is still sugar — the difference is processing, not calorie count.
- Coffee grind. South Indian filter coffee needs a fine grind with chicory to bloom properly in a steel filter; an espresso or French press grind will not behave the same way.
- FSSAI licence number should be printed on every food pack, alongside a single-ingredient list for staples.
Everything is vegan and cruelty-free. Related ranges: Organic Grocery, Beverages and Beauty and Bath. Certifications are listed on our vendor certifications page.
